Upon completion of a poetry unit, first grade students in Victoria Reid’s class at Tuttle Avenue School shared their best and final works during a Poetry Café. Students individually read three of their best poems to guests, which included examples of acrostic, pattern, diamante, Earth Day, pyramid, Cinquain, Haiku and various other poetry. The guests then snapped their fingers in recognition of the students’ efforts.
During the poetry unit, students learned about parts of speech and various forms of poetry. They each wrote 13 poems, which were bound in a hardback keepsake book.
