Principal's Corner

Principal John-Michael J. Jackson at his desk

Dear South Street Families,

I cannot express how honored and excited I am to be appointed as the new Principal of South Street School. Over the past eighteen years, I’ve had the pleasure of serving the communities of Shoreham-Wading River as an Elementary Educator. During this time, I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to grow emotionally and professionally within the community.

Since 2018, I have also served as an Assistant Principal for the Eastern Suffolk BOCES Extension Program. This afforded me a very rich and rewarding opportunity to work with special needs children from all grades across ten different school districts. While working for BOCES, I was tasked with and gained experience in budget development, staff recruitment and evaluation, and analysis and alignment of student special needs requirements in accordance with Special Education statutes. The combination of these two appointments has offered me an array of professional experiences that I believe will guide me as I serve the communities of the Eastport-South Manor School District.

My leadership philosophy is built on positive communication and collaboration, and the role these two attributes play in the education of our children. I understand that no two children are alike, and as such, our professional community must work diligently every day using our collection of best practices to help children achieve their full potential. By keeping the lines of communication open between home and school, I believe we can achieve this unified goal.

In 2016, my wife and I decided to move to Manorville along with our three young children. With both of us being educators, the school district was of paramount importance in our decision process. In addition to the educational programming, one of the main reasons we decided to move to this community is the districts’ commitment to focus on social and emotional learning through our PBIS initiative, and the integration of Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

With the appointment of this position literally being “close to home,” I have a vested interest in the success of this school, our district, and all the little people who walk through its doors each day.

I look forward to sharing in all our successes to come!
