Welcome to Kindergarten!
The first year of school is always an exciting adventure for the entire family. I look forward to a wonderful year with you and your child. A very important component in making this year a special one will be the relationship we develop. A strong parent/teacher relationship is critical for maximum school success. Throughout the year, I will communicate with you through notices, personal notes, telephone calls, emails, report cards, parent-teacher conferences and my website. All of our classroom information can be found on this website by using the left side navigation bar. I will post my own weekly update on this website as well. You will also receive kindergarten team newsletters giving you information about our curriculum and class events. I encourage you to contact me if you have any concerns or questions at any time. You may call Tuttle Avenue’s main office at 801-3058 and leave a message and I will return your call as soon as possible. You may also write a note and send it to school with your child or you can email me at school at email@example.com.
Most kindergarten parents have many questions before school begins. I hope I can answer a few here.
These are the supplies your child will need on the first day of school. The supplies are as follows: 1 supply box (approximately 8" x 5"), 12 large glue sticks (1.27 oz.), 1 Fiskar blunt scissors, 6 packs of 24-count Crayola crayons, 1 box of 12 colored pencils, and 2 pocket folders, and 18 sharpened Ticonderoga pencils.
Your child will have homework starting at the end of September. Please provide a quiet, comfortable space in which your child may complete homework and check to see that the homework is completed satisfactorily. Click on the homework link on the left to view our weekly homework assignment.
Snack and Lunch
Your child can bring lunch or buy lunch in the cafeteria. Your child will also need a drink and a snack every day for our morning snack.
Your child will bring home a form each month to order books from a book club. If you wish to order, please send a check made out to the book club in an envelope along with the order slip, or you may order online with a credit card as well. This opportunity is provided as a means for parents to buy quality books for their child at a low price. As an added bonus, for every dollar that is spent on books, I earn bonus points that are used for purchasing classroom books. This is a win-win situation because your child receives books, and you are helping to provide literature for the classroom. Of course, you are never under any obligation to order.
The children will be going out for recess everyday unless it is raining, or extremely cold. Please keep this in mind when helping your child select clothing for the day. Your child should wear sneakers, and dress in layers when possible so he/she will be comfortable throughout the day. In order to foster independence, select coats, boots, and a backpack that your child can handle with the least amount of assistance from adults.
This year we will honor a classmate as our “Birthday Star” This event will take place on your child’s birthday or the week of your child’s birthday.
This is a special day for your child! It is a great opportunity for you and your family to work together to create a poster that highlights your child. The poster may include favorite things, special people, and exciting times in your child’s life! Writing captions can be included to help remind your child what he or she wants to share with the class during the oral presentation. After the oral presentation, the children will ask questions; such as; “What do you want to be when you grow up?” What is your favorite color?”
There is not a right or wrong way to make the poster. It will be as unique as your child!! You are welcome to read a story or bring in a craft to complete with the class. Whatever you decide to do is fine.
Please be aware that I check email about once per day. Please do not leave an urgent message, such as a change in dismissal plans, as it may not be retrieved in time. Urgent messages should be left with the school secretary. I will do my best to get back to you as soon as possible. I will send home additional information during the first week of school. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.
