Welcome to Financial Algebra.

  • It is my goal to make this year an exciting and positive experience for each student. Financial Algebra will take you step-by-step through strategies to help you learn the time value of money, how to evaluate the best cell phone contract, how to build a business plan by knowing costs, profits, and breakeven points, an much more  . To aid in this process, please access my website for helpful links and homework assignments:

Classroom Rules

  • Come to class on time. Standing outside the door and rushing in after the bell has begun to ring will constitute a tardy. You must be INSIDE the door when it begins ringing to be counted on time.  If you are late to class three times you will receive a detention.  Cutting class will also result in a detention.

Attend to personal needs before coming to class. The bathroom may only be used in emergencies. A signed agenda book is needed for leaving the class. Do not ask to use the washroom or go to your locker before class begins; just go before you get to class. Anyone late for any reason is late.

Remain in your assigned seat unless you have permission to get up. Throw scraps away at the end of the period on your way out.

Do not eat candy or other food in class unless you have been given special permission. Water is allowed.

Bring required materials every day unless you are otherwise directed.

Talk only when permitted. Be aware of the situation, quiet talking is allowed in some situations and speaking to the entire group without raising your hand may be allowed in others. NO talking is EVER allowed during tests or quizzes, even after you have handed in your papers.  Everyone should be able to take their test in silence.

Do not cheat. Students caught cheating will receive a zero and a phone call home. Both the student who shares his work for an independent assignment AND the person who copies it will suffer the same consequences. I expect you to do your own work and to be sure no one can copy it.

Classroom Procedures

  • Entering the Classroom It is expected that as soon as you enter you go to your seat and sit down. Once seated, check the side board for the day's homework assignment (write it down in your agenda book so you don't forget). Then take out last night’s homework so it is ready for me to check.

Arriving Late When you enter the room late (with or without a pass) you need not disturb the class.  If you have a pass, please place it on my desk. If you must speak with me, go to your seat, and raise your hand when it is appropriate to do so.

Leaving the Classroom The bell does not dismiss the class, I do. Do not pack up until I dismiss the class. Do not leave your seats until I dismiss the class.

Absences On the day you return from an absence you should arrive early to class. The first thing to do is ask for any handouts you may have missed. If there are any questions beyond the board, speak with me before class begins, after class, or during extra help. ALL ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE POSTED ON MY SCHOOL WEBPAGE.  YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY MISSED ASSIGNMENTS.

Make-Up Tests If you are absent for a test day (field trip, vacation, doctor’s apt., etc.) you can arrange to take the test prior to me handing back the test the next day. Tests cannot be taken during your math class. You can take the test before school, after school or during a free period. If you are absent due to illness, the missed test can be made up as per our discussion.

Classwork/ HOMEWORK  Classwork is an essential component of being successful in this class.  It is a reinforcement of the lesson that will be introduced in class that day.  Classwork must be completed when assigned.  Accuracy with work shown is imperative. Anything not completed in class will need to be completed for homework It is crucial that students asks questions if they have any concerns regarding the classwork assignment in class when the work assignment is reviewed.  STUDENTS MUST BE THEIR OWN ADVOCATES.
