ENGLISH 11 R
Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.

As a whole, we are focused on exploring questions and developing new understandings and ideas. In English, we do this through reading, writing, and speaking, therefore, it is expected that you read daily .... NO LESS THAN 30 minutes a day. Like anything, you more you practice, the better your skills become.
In order to read better, we must attack our reading with a purpose. For example, while reading your "challenged" or "banned" book, ask yourself "Why would this book be banned? Who would ban or challenge it? Why?" or while reading a multicultural book, ask yourself "What is social responsibility? Who is responsible for what? Why? Is it fair? To whom?"
Reading with these types of questions in mind, we establish a purpose for reading. On a more basic level, we must be thinking WHAT we are reading by asking ourselves: WHO is it about? WHAT is their problem? WHO is involved? HOW is the problem escalating? WHY? Is there a resolution to the problem? WHY or WHY not? These types of questions help us identify the meaning behind the writing.
