• Dear ESM Jr-Sr High School Parents & Students,

We hope that you and your families are healthy and understand that this has been a challenging time for all.  The Counseling Department has been working in tandem with teachers, psychologists, social workers and administration to assist students and families during this unprecedented event.

As a department we would like to provide you with an update on what the counseling staff has accomplished, work that we continue to do, as well as items that we will address in the upcoming months.

While we may not be physically in our offices we continue to assist students and parents with all guidance related services.  Over the past few weeks counselors have reached out to students and families through email, Remind messages, and phone calls checking in and offering assistance.  Counselors, working with teachers have attempted to ensure that students have access to the Schoology platform and are submitting assignments. In addition to direct communication between students and parents, counselors continue to submit transcripts to colleges, process BOCES applications, review NYS Diploma requirements, provide college consultation, scholarship dissemination, AP exam information/updates, summer program recommendations, course selection adjustments, and post high school planning, just to name a few.

While we will continue the aforementioned items we will be taking on new tasks in the upcoming weeks.  The spring is filled with positive, forward thinking items such as student scheduling for the upcoming year, CSE Annual Review meetings, finalization of post high school plans for our seniors, scholarship submission, career interest inventories, counseling newsletter and final transcript submission to colleges and universities as well as the NCAA.

Counselors are always available through email and the Remind App.  Specific grade level and counselor codes were emailed to parents and students on March 27th.  In the event that you need the codes again please do not hesitate to reach out to your counselor directly.

As a department we know that the ESM community has the strength and resolve to not only get through this pandemic but to grow and become better than before.  We are here for you!

  • LIU Updates

    Dear LIU students and Parents,

The following information has been sent to us from LIU:

As one of our LIU Post High School Scholars (HSS) partners, Please know that, if in any way, we can be of assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out.  We are confident that at some point in the not-too-distant future we will start to return to normalcy.  When that happens, we will celebrate and when that happens, LIU will be available to support your program.

A few of the LIU dual enrollment (HSS) high school teachers have asked about their students, under the present “remote learning” conditions, earning their college credits.  The High School Scholars students, who have registered for the course credit, will be given the college grade/credit that is granted by the HSS teacher.  LIU will honor your instructional plan and the HSS teachers’ assessments of their students.

LIU wishes you and your family good health and a quick return to a more normal work environment.
