Poems for October

  • Poems for Early October

I'm A Big Red Fire Truck (in the tune of "I'm a Little Teapot")

I'm a big red fire truck long and stout,

When I am needed I roar and shout,

People love to see me rush about,

Just turn me on and head me out,

I'm a big red fire truck stout and long,

Here is my ladder, tall and strong,

When I get a call you'll hear my song,

Just climb aboard and turn me on.

    Fire Drill

Did you ever have a fire drill?

    We had one today.

Our teacher told us what to do.

    So we would be OK.

There really was no fire at all.

It only was a fire drill.

We walked out to the school yard

    And stood very still.

We could not talk or run or play.

    Until the drill was through.

Now if there really is a fire.

We'll know just what to do.

    Rain of Leaves

    It's raining big,

    It's raining small,

    It's raining leaves,

    In the fall.

    It's raining gold,

    And red and brown,

    As autumn leaves

    Come raining down.

    The WInd Of Fall

    The wind of fall,

    Is tuning its fiddles,

    Pumping its organ,

    Testing it's drums,

    Shining its brasses,

    Sorting its music,

    Planning its concerts...

    And here it comes!

The City Mouse and the Country Mouse

A mouse went into the country,

A mouse went into the country,

A mouse went into the country,

    To see his country friend.

    They roamed the country plain,

    They roamed the country plain,

    They roamed the country plain,

Ate lots of nuts and grain.

But the mouse who went to the country,

Said " LIfe's too plain in the country."

He said to his friend in the country,

    "Come see the city life"

They ate sweet cake and cream,

They ate sweet cake and cream,

They ate sweet cake and cream,

The life there is a dream.

But the mouse new to the city,

Soon was chased by a kitty,

He said "This place may be pretty."

"But I like my country home!"

And so he went back home.

And so he went back home.

And so he went back home.

Oh, the mouse that came from the country,

Said "LIfe is plain in the country."

"It's plain but calm in the country,

So that is where I'll stay."

    October

    When the leaves drop,

    Yellow,brown and red,

    When geese turn south,far overhead,

When Jack Frost's mischief shows up clear,

We know October's time is here.

    We wait--and hope--

    And wait--and then,

    Hurray! It's Halloween

    Again!

    October

    In October

    I'll be host

    To witches,goblins

    And a ghost.

    I'll serve them chicken soup

    On toast

    Whoopy once

    Whoopy twice

    Whoopy chicken soup

    with rice.

Hooray For Columbus (to the tune:  "Row,Row,Row your boat")

    Sail,sail,sail three ships,

    Slowly down the sea.

    Nina,Pinta,Santa Maria,

    Count them 1,2,3.

    Land,land,land they saw,

    After many days,

    HOORAY,HOORAY for Columbus,

The man who found the way.
