Kindergarten Newsletter - May 2017
Well the April showers sure have brought May flowers! We are looking forward to having the children continue to enjoy the fresh air and our wonderful playground!
Our sight words for the month are why, what, who, and how. Sight word recognition is crucial for fluency in reading. Please practice all sight words learned with your child.
This month, we will be learning about insects. We will also discuss animal life cycles. Take your child on a nature walk and observe all the insects and animals coming to life!
In math, the children will be describing objects in the environment using names of shapes, and describe the relative position of these objects. The topic essential question we will answer is, “What words can be used to describe the position and location of an object?” Math vocabulary will include inside, outside, above, below, beside, in front of, behind, next to, left and right.
Kindergartners have many exciting upcoming events. We look forward to seeing you on May 11th at 2:00 for our Spring Celebration! Parents are also invited to attend Field Day on May 25th at 1:30. We will have a field trip on May 22nd to the Eastport Fire House and May 31st to the Game Farm.
As a reminder, school will be closed on Monday, May 29th. Thank you for all your continued support. The parent-teacher connection is so important for a child’s success.
