Regions of New York

  • Below is a link to be used for the social studies assignment on learning about the geographical and human features of the 5 regions of New York. New York state is divided into 5 main regions or areas, because of the similarity of landforms found there. We may think of Long Island and Manhattan - The Big Apple - as 2 very different parts of New York, but they are part of the same region because they are located next to each other, and are made up mainly of flat land or plains, at sea level. In contrast, northern New York is mainly mountainous and has the highest mountain in New York, Mt. Marcy - 5,344 feet high !
