Welcome Back Letter

  • Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome back to another exciting year of school!  I am pleased to have the opportunity to work with your children in 4th grade this year.  I am looking forward to an academically challenging and rewarding year.

Through natural curiosity, and discovery children can learn.  It is important to establish an educational environment that fosters respect, responsibilities and resourcefulness.  Academically, this year we will be very busy.  In our classroom you will find a fun, yet challenging environment where children feel safe and know that they are valued.

I would like to take the opportunity at this time to explain several important classroom procedures:

    1. Homework is assigned daily and the Agenda Book must be signed by a parent or guardian after viewing the homework.  Please do not sign the Agenda Book until you have viewed your child’s homework and it is complete.  This is an excellent tool for communication between parent and teacher!
    2. My class management consists of: a ticket reward system, marble jar and school wide “positive behavior” program.
    3. Students are encouraged to bring a healthy snack to school.
    4. Students are expected to read at least 20 minutes every night.  Some weeks the book will be assigned, while other weeks it will be student choice.  In addition to reading the book, your child will be required to write a summary, answer questions or complete a graphic organizer.
    5. It is a fourth grade expectation that all students have memorized his/her multiplication facts.  If this is not the case for your child, it is important that your child know his/her facts by the beginning of this upcoming school year.  There will be timed multiplication tests given on a daily basis.
    6. I have a classroom website that will be kept up to date and will prove to be quite useful!  All pertinent information will be posed on my site.  I will give you more information in September.  This is a wonderful communication tool between parent and teacher!

I am very eager to work with you during such an important time in your child's academic career.  This year is a big transition and it is imperative that we work together to support and guide your child toward a successful future.   I anticipate this year to be both challenging and rewarding for all of us!  I have an open-door policy in this classroom.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  I look forward to the first day of school, and the beginning of a positive and successful fourth grade experience.  Enjoy the rest of your summer!

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Arroyo
