Air Powered Dragster
Technology education has an amazing challenge set aside for the middle school students. Starting with paper, pencil, and a block of wood, creating a custom compressed air dragster.
Technology education is empowering the students to envision, design, carve, and drag race their own custom car. They study terms and car dynamics. From that information they draw ten thumbnail sketches. Three sketches are chosen and then enlarged to a full size side view and top view. One of the three full size side view and one top view are drawn on graph paper to scale and full detail to be affixed to the block of wood as a cutting guide. The students utilize the drill press, scroll saw, files, sand paper, and permanent markers to complete their creation. This is a very challenging and gratifying project the students can take home for display.
