Procedures

  • Hello!

As a member of this community for my entire life I want to welcome you to our classroom! Not only did I attend Eastport K-12 but have spent my entire career teaching either here at the Junior/Senior High School, at Eastport Elementary, as well as at Dayton Avenue! I love that I can give back to the community that gave so much to me!

I would like to take the opportunity to explain several important classroom procedures:

    1.     Homework is assigned daily and students will be given time to write it in their Agenda Book. Homework will be checked, averaged, and will count as a test grade in the overall average for each quarter.

    2.    Students are encouraged to bring a healthy snack to school and will be given the opportunity to eat whenever possible. (I have found that students who are hungry think about that rather than the lesson!) **Please share any allergy concerns you have ASAP so I can be sure that we keep our classroom a safe environment for all.

    3.    Students are expected to read every day! Whether it is the textbook, notes, study guides, cartoons in the newspaper, a word game on the computer, playing scrabble with the family, reading the recipe for dinner, etc. I would like them to read. Be creative, have fun with it, and make it enjoyable!

    4.    I have a classroom website that will be kept up to date and will prove to be quite useful!  All pertinent information will be posted on our site.  I also like to use Remind101 for quick reminders.

I am eager to work with you during such an important time in your academic career! This year is a big transition and it is imperative that we work together toward a successful future.  I anticipate this year to be both challenging and rewarding for all of us!  I have an open-door policy in this classroom.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  I look forward to a positive and successful junior high experience!

    Warmly,

    Ms. Cowden
