Eastport-South Manor Senior Named National Merit Commended Student

Eastport-South Manor Junior-Senior High School senior Matthew Halber has been named a commended student in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

At the end of September, about 34,000 of the approximately 50,000 highest scorers were chosen for this honor based on their PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test results. Students receiving letters of commendation boast impressive academic résumés, including enrollment in challenging Advanced Placement courses, and exemplary involvement in clubs and in a wide variety of honor societies.

“The district and I are incredibly proud of this young gentleman for being recognized as a commended student in the National Merit Scholarship Program,” said building principal Salvatore Alaimo. “Matthew is certainly considered by our faculty as one of the hardest-working and highest-achieving students at Eastport-South Manor. I am confident that this is the first of many forms of recognition that he will receive this year.”

Matthew received a letter of commendation in recognition of his outstanding academic performance and now becomes a candidate for special scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.
