Who is a Certified Athletic Trainer?

  • Certified athletic trainers (ATCs) are medical professionals who specialize in the prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses that occur to athletes and the physically active. As part of a complete health care team, the ATC works under the direction of a licensed physician and in cooperation with other health care professionals.

    Does ESM have an A.T.C?

Yes!  My name is Jason Long and I am the District’s Certified Athletic Trainer.

It is a privilege to work with such dedicated, respectful and hard working athletes and coaches.  I am looking forward to a great season!

Impact - Concussion Assessment

  • The Eastport South Manor School District is currently working with St. Charles Hospital, Long Island’s Pediatric Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program*,  on an initiative for our students-athletes.  This program will assist our team physicians/athletic trainers in evaluating and treating head injuries (e.g., concussion).  In order to better manage concussions sustained by our student-athletes, we have acquired a software tool called ImPACT (Immediate Post Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing).  ImPACT is a computerized exam utilized in many professional, collegiate, and high school sports programs across the country to successfully diagnose and manage concussions. If an athlete is believed to have suffered a head injury during competition, ImPACT is used to help determine the severity of head injury and pinpoint when that injury has fully healed.
