Schools Unveil New Book Vending Machines

Students at Dayton Avenue School and South Street School have a new way to celebrate their achievements and discover their next great read. Both schools recently held ribbon-cutting ceremonies to celebrate the arrival of new book vending machines, made possible through funding from the board of education.
The book vending machines will offer students books across a variety of reading levels and genres, with selections chosen to reflect the interests of the students in each school. The PTAs at each building are helping stock the machines, strengthening the school-community collaboration and ensuring students have access to books they are excited to read.
The new book vending machines will also serve as an additional tool to support the buildings’ Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports initiatives. Books may be used as incentives for positive office referrals and academic reward systems, allowing students to celebrate their accomplishments with a new book to enjoy.
“The book vending machines are a wonderful way to celebrate our students while encouraging them to develop a love of reading,” said Superintendent of Schools Joseph A. Steimel. “We are grateful to our Board of Education and PTAs for supporting this initiative and helping us create another meaningful way to recognize students for their positive choices and accomplishments.”
