About the Alternative Program
How does an Alternative School help students "catch up" on credits? Credit Recovery Options Work Study A student may earn up to two credits a school year through work study. Credits can be accrued based on the number of hours worked. Students must submit pay stubs from the employer to the building principal for approval and for credit approval. 100 hours of work = .25 credits
Study Packets A student may decide to work on study packets for additional credits. To be eligible to work on a study packet, a student must be enrolled in the Alternative High School Program for a minimum of one marking quarter and be in good standing. Good standing means that the student is currently passing all the classes they are enrolled in and successfully obtained a minimum of 80% in two of their four academic classes (Math, Science, Social Studies, or English). Students must perform all work associated with their own packet. Failure to complete the packet will result in the child not receiving credit through a Study Packet. Only fully completed Study Packets will be awarded a grade and credit. Independent Study Student may decide to develop an independent study project for additional credits. 30 hours of independent study =.25 credits
Embedded Credits Students in need of an elective credit may be eligible to receive up to a 1/2 credit if one of their content area classes contains a project/assignment that also meets the criteria of an elective course. Example: Students in U.S. History and Government Course are responsible for creating a PowerPoint presentation on the Civil War. The PowerPoint must include slides that contain graphics, sound, and slide effects. This project may be eligible to receive .25 credits in Business Education Independent Study Students may decide to develop an independent study project for additional credits. 30 hours of independent study =.25 credits
